Fear is often one of the biggest things that hold someone back from getting help because of an abusive relationship. They can be afraid that no one will believe them, that they will be blamed, or that they are only going to experience more harm if they say something.
When our advocates get a call on our helpline, they know the bravery and courage it took for someone to ask for help and speak up to break the silence about their experiences. It is not easy, but it is the first step toward a life free from all forms of victimization.
When someone calls our helpline, advocates are able to talk about what they’ve been experiencing and what resources are available – at Stepping Stones and around our community.
But what our advocates know after 45 years of 24/7 advocacy services and support is that fear is something that you can overcome. Advocates are able to help debrief about what someone has experienced, talk about what areas of their life they need support in, and how to begin taking steps forward to live free from abuse.
Many work with our advocates while living in emergency shelter, our advocates also provide all the same support services for families who have a safe place to live but still need debriefing and advocacy. Many families make appointments with our advocates to sit down to safety plan, learn about resources, and receive support when they go to file orders of protection or attend court.
If you or someone you know needs support because of domestic violence and other forms of abuse, call our 24/7/365 Helpline at 928-445-4673.

45 Years of Thank Yous
As our 45th anniversary year comes to a close, we reflect back on the many people we are thankful for at SSA.
We are thankful for the advocates who pioneered domestic violence advocacy services and safe shelter in the 70’s and 80’s when resources and support were not available for women.
We are thankful for the Quad-Cities communities for supporting families with us by shopping, donating, working, and volunteering for 45 years.
We are thankful for our amazing advocates who show up every day and provide around the clock services for families experiencing the hardest moments of their lives.
And we are thankful for the families who do the hard work it takes to change their lives.
Thank you for 45 years!
