Every day brings the opportunity to create a new beginning. Adults and children receiving advocacy services from Stepping Stones choose to start taking steps forward in order to live free from all forms of abuse.

One key way they begin to work on their new beginning is through our self-sufficiency and empowerment matrix. With the support of specially trained advocates, adults are able to take a look at several areas that help with general well-being like housing, transportation, medical care, income, and overall health (physical, mental, and emotional). Step by step, advocates help adults assess their strengths and challenges in these categories and what they need to do to begin making progress on their new beginning.

It’s far from easy; it takes a lot of courage to lay out all the messy, challenging parts of life. But, that’s what our advocates are here for – taking the time to listen and provide support. Advocates are trained to help adults take a look at the areas on the matrix and decide which ones are most important for them to focus on. From there, they then work together to come up with a plan of action and the resources needed to accomplish their goals.

No one has to walk this road alone. It is hard, messy, and uncomfortable, but our team knows that lives can truly change with a lot of hard work.
