How do we work to “Be Better” each day when faced with challenges and set backs? At Stepping Stones, it’s all about the taking a deeper look as yourself.
When families come to our program, they take an honest self-inventory to identify areas that they can make changes in their lives. For some, it may be the first time they are really taking a deeper look and it’s hard! It takes a lot of courage to looks at the things that didn’t work in the past and then take time to address those areas.
This self-inventory allows adults to pick out areas that they can control – their behaviors, reactions, choices – and in turn, let go of things they cannot control, like other’s actions and words.
Then, with the support of our advocates, families are able to begin creating and working on goals in order to BE BETTER. Those goals may include counseling, group therapy, educational and professional development, and mending important relationships. It is not easy and it doesn’t happen automatically. But, as they work hard toward their goals, each day adults at Stepping Stones are finding freedom from abuse and a chance to be better.
