You are ABSOLUTELY not alone. For 46 years, 24/365, Stepping Stones advocates have answered our “live” helpline taking over 2,000 calls per year. There is a lot that goes into the services we provide from advocates, shelter buildings, funding, but most importantly, this work takes a philosophy of tolerance, unconditional acceptance, and rigorous honesty. It also means that we advocates have to take care of ourselves first. It takes our own self-inventory and ability to find humility and grace in the experience with the caller on the line. Then, we can share our own experience, strength, and hope.

WHAT WE HOPE FOR OUR CALLERS:

  • They hear tolerance, unconditional acceptance, and rigorous honesty that will, at the right moment, help them to experience their “moment of clarity.” They can then take action to make decisions that will help them and their children live free from all forms of future victimization.
  • They find serenity, safety, and strength in the voice at the other end of the line. When they hang up they feel heard, treated with respect and dignity, and know the grace of new found fellowship.

WHAT WE HOPE FOR OUR ADVOCATES:

  • We experience each call with freshness and see each caller as they are, where they are, and not who we want them to be or do.
  • We are able to hear through the hostility, fear, anxiety, or even humor – and really hear the pain and suffering the person on the line is experiencing.
  • We stay clear on our purpose. Our job is not to fix people, but to be with them and help them to become empowered enough to take action.
  • We feel honored for the opportunity to serve these adults and children who are looking for relief from the tragedy of family violence in all forms.

You are not alone. We will be here 24/7/365. If you or someone you know needs support because of domestic violence and other forms of abuse, call our 24/7 Helpline at 928-445-4673.
