The Stepping Stones advocates who answer every Helpline call – day or night – are committed to experience each call with freshness and see each caller as they are, where they are and not who we want them to be or do.
Advocates are able to hear through the hostility, fear, anxiety, or even humor – and really hear the pain & suffering the person on the line is experiencing. They stay clear on our purpose knowing their job is not to fix people, but to be with them & help them to become empowered enough to take action. With each call, advocates give honest and direct feedback in order to best meet the needs of the caller. Our team of advocates is honored for the opportunity to serve people who are looking for relief for themselves or for their loved ones from the tragedy of intimate violence in all forms.
We hope that anyone who calls us experiences non-judgmental, unconditional acceptance, and rigorous honesty that will help them find their moment of empowerment and take action. We hope that those experiencing violence are able to make decisions that will help them and their children live free from all forms of future victimization. And finally, we hope that they will find peace, safety, and strength in the support of our advocates as they break the silence and speak up.
